This weekend was the conclusion of the NFL Draft 2019 which was held in Nashville! Starting Thursday evening (April 25, 2019), thousands of people flooded the area surrounding Nissan Stadium and Broadway St. in Nashville to see each Team’s pics and take park in the festivities. The NFL announced that Nashville broke the three-day total attendance of an NFL Draft with more than 600,000 people in attendance. The previous record has only been 250,000! The original estimate by planners was 300,000. Next year the NFL Draft is slated to be held in Las Vegas.
On Saturday, the kids and I took a ride down to Nashville to check it all out. Not surprisingly, traffic was an absolute nightmare. The area around the stadium was packed due to free parking in the lots around Nissan Stadium. We opted instead to circle around and find a lot in Nashville closer to Broadway where we were able to park for $20 and have a relatively short walk to the NFL Draft area. Starting around Bridgestone Arena, we made our way to the area around the stage and since my son a Giants fan, hung around there to wait for their first pick of the day.
Naturally you can’t have a major event in Nashville as seen below with the folks we saw back at the Nashville Christmas Parade preaching that we’d all be burned if we didn’t leave the event and repent. Anyway…
After watching a few pics we took to a side street where food trucks were lined up and got a slice of pizza before making our way over the pedestrian bridge where signs were lined up and information was being passed about each teams various pics.
Once over the bridge we made our way over to the stadium where all of the interactive displays and activities were held. Life sized player mannequins were setup with each teams jersey for photo ops, drum teams were performing, passing \ running challenges were setup, and museum like areas that included things like locker room memorabilia, Super Bowl Rings, and even the Lombardy Trophy.
Overall there was plenty to see and the event was well planned to handle to the crowds in attendance. The kids and I were had a great afternoon and it was well worth the trip downtown! Fingers crossed that we’ll be seeing another NFL Draft here in Nashville in the near future!
