Less than ten minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and just to the left of the Sugarlands Visitor Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the trail to Cataract Falls. Only 3/4 of a mile in length, it is an easy trail for families with children of any age that includes the falls which are 25 ft high.
The trailhead is directly to the left of the visitor center (looking at it from the parking area) and is primarily gravel. You walk along Fighting Creek with the trail being under a beautiful canopy of trees. You’ll be sure to enjoy the brief hike and small, but pretty falls. On our recent hike to Charlies Bunion (blog post) we made it a quick, but worthwhile stop on the way home!
